Minnesota's Homeless Veteran Registry
One phone call puts a team of housing and service professionals to work with you.
What is it?
The Registry is run by the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA). It connects Veterans experiencing homelessness with housing and services in their community. It also helps the organizations serving Veterans work together, so you don't have to tell your story ten times.
Who can join?
Anyone who served in the U.S. Armed Forces, Reserves, or National Guard, no matter the type of discharge or how long you served.
About to lose your housing, but not homeless yet? Call too. They'll help you find the right program before it gets worse.
Three ways to join
1. Call (fastest)
Call 1-888-LinkVet (546-5838) and say you need housing help.
2. Ask someone to refer you
A shelter worker, CVSO, case manager, or other provider can refer you using MDVA's Statewide Release Form (PDF).
3. Use our help form
Once our partnership agreements are signed, our help form will refer you to the Registry, with your permission. Coming soon
What happens next
- You're added to the Registry. It's a list of Veterans by name, so no one falls through the cracks.
- A team reviews your situation at regular case meetings. Teams meet by region: Hennepin County, Ramsey County, the suburban metro, and Greater Minnesota.
- A person works with you to find housing and get past what's in your way: ID, income, records, credit, or anything else.
- Once you're housed, help continues so you stay housed.
Good to know
- It's voluntary. Saying no will not affect your eligibility for services.
- It's free. No one should ever charge you to join.
- No DD-214 in hand? Call anyway. See how to get it replaced for free.
- Worried about your discharge? The Registry accepts any discharge type. Read more.
- Know a Veteran who needs help? Anyone can call 1-888-LinkVet to report a Veteran experiencing homelessness.
